Check out these new connectivity maps! They’re part of a project between the Smithsonian’s Migratory Bird Center and the Department of Defense. A lot of high-quality breeding habitat is located on DoD land. But for migratory birds, events happening off of military bases may be just as important for managing their populations. Because of this, the DoD and the Migratory Bird Center have undertaken the first step in understanding drivers of population change throughout the full life cycle -by unraveling migratory connectivity using stable isotopes.
