Mexico’s monarch butterfly reserve stops logging

August, 2012: Mexican officials used anti-logging patrols and incentives to protect wintering habitat of the monarch butterfly. Their efforts have been very successful and illegal logging has been virtually eliminated. These conservation efforts by the Mexican government have had broad impacts throughout the larger ecosystem and could help efforts in the USA that target other periods of this migratory insect’s life cycle.
